Mrs. Sally Oppenheim: The higher prescription charges are estimated to add one twenty-fifth of one per cent. to the RPI. The future rate for mortgages has not yet been determined.

36. Mr. Ioan Evans asked the Secretary of State for Trade what has been the per- centage increase over the previous year of the retail price index for the months of June, July, August, September and October 1979.

Mrs. Sally Oppenheim: The rate of increase in the retail price index was:

114 per cent in the 12 months up to June

1979

15.6 per cent. in the 12 months up to July 15.8 per cent in the 12 months up to

August

16.5 per cent. in the 12 months up to

September, and

17.2 per cent. in the 12 months up to

October.

Airports Policy

26. Mr. Haselhurst asked the Secretary of State for Trade when he expects to publish the report of the Advisory Com- mittee on Airports Policy.

Mr. Tebbit: I intend to arrange for the formal publication of these reports with- out undue delay.

Multi-fibre Arrangement

27. Mr. Cryer asked the Secretary of State for Trade what representations he has received regarding the multi-fibre arrangement and its effect on the wool textile industry.

Mr. Nott: I have received a number of such representations.

Inflation

28. Mr. Ernie Ross asked the Secre- tary of State for Trade if he will pub- lish a forecast for inflation in 1980.

Miss Sally Oppenheim: The Govern- ment's forecast was published on 12 June and has proved correct. It will be up- dated shortly.

Third London Airport

29. Mr. Michael Morris asked the Sec- retary of State for Trade when he expects to announce a decision on the third Lon- don airport.

Mr. Tebbit: The Government's con- clusions will be announced when the reports of the advisory bodies and other relevant information have been con- sidered.

World Trade (United Kingdom Share)

30. Mr. Brocklebank-Fowler asked the Secretary of State for Trade what was the United Kingdom's share of world trade in 1978.

Mr. Eyre: Provisional information sug- gests that the United Kingdom's share of the value of world exports in 1978 was 51 per cent.

Price Increases (Monitoring)

31. Mr. Buchan asked the Secretary of State for Trade what arrangements exist within his Department to monitor price increases.

Miss Sally Oppenheim: Arrangements exist to monitor only those charges for which I am directly responsible.

Subsidised Freight Rates (Soviet Bloc Fleets)

33. Mr. Watson asked the Secretary of State for Trade what steps are being taken to counter the effects of subsidised freight rates offered by merchant fleets within the Soviet bloc.

Mr. Tebbit: The EEC is monitoring two liner trades where there is significant Soviet presence.

We have urged the Community to study, in parallel with this exercise, how best to co-ordinate defensive measures should these prove necessary.

Flying Rights

32. Mr. Hal Miller asked the Secre- tary of State for Trade if he will make a statement on flying rights between the United Kingdom and Hong Kong and between Hong Kong and the People's Republic of China.

Mr. Tebbit: Between London and Hong Kong, the licensing of scheduled services is a matter for the Civil Aviation Authority, subject to appeal to my right hon. Friend, and for the Hong Kong Air Transport Licensing Authority; of non- scheduled service for the Civil Aviation |Authority and the Hong Kong Director
