CIVIL AVIATION DEPARTMENT

AIR MAIL

MALAYSIA

3rd August, 1979.

Mr. Christopher Roberts, Under-Secretary for Aviation, Department of Trade,

1, Victoria Street, London SW1H OET.

DEAN Chais,

follows:

I have received your letter of 20 July, which reads as

"In the course of air services talks between represen- tatives of the Governments of the United Kingdom and of Malaysia held in London between 16 and 20 July, the two sides discussed the importance of agreements on air fare structures, and the disruption which could be caused if fares were discounted in breach of such agreements. The discussion took place primarily in the context of the Orient Airlines Association Agreement.

2.

Both sides agreed that their aeronautical authorities would emphasise to their respective airlines the importance of adhering strictly to the agreements on the structure of air fares to which they were party, as long as such agreements remained in force."

I confirm that this letter also represents my understanding of the position.
