12. IN THE COURSE OF THE TETE-A-TETE REFERRED TO IN PARA 9 ABOVE, ROGERS COMMENTED ON THE CONSIDERABLE ADVANCES THAT HAD BEEN MADE AT THIS METTING. NOT ONLY HAD THERE BEEN A BUSINESSLIKE AND CONSTRUCTIVE ATMOSPHERE : THE EXAMINATION OF THE FACTS AND FORECASTS HAD ALREADY LED TO OUR AGREEMENT TO THE INTRODUCTION OF THE AIRBUS ON THE HONG KONG ROUTE AND TO THE PROBABILITY THAT, IF THE ASSUMPTIONS CURRENTLY BEING MADE WERE BORNE OUT, THE TWO SIDES WOULD COMPROMISE ON AN INCREASE TO THREE DC 10S ON THE TRUNK ROUTE. HAMZAH REPLIED THAT THIS WAS NOT ENOUGH. NOT ONLY DID THE MALAYSIAN WANT TO HOLD ON TO THEIR FIFTH FREEDOM BEYOND HONG KONG: HIS POLITICAL MASTERS WOULD ALSO NOT BE SATISFIED WITH LESS THAN FOUR DC10S ON THE TRUNK ROUTE.
