(iii) that the maximum fare for de luxe class services should
be increased to $5, on the understanding that the Company might charge such lower fares as its commercial judgement might dictate; and
(d) that a resolution to give effect to these decisions should
be introduced into the Legislative Council.
The new scale of fares provided a concessionary fare for commuters. from the New Territories on days other than Sundays and public holidays.

The resolution was made in the Legislative Council on 22nd December 1976 and the fare revisions came into effect on 1st January 1977.

On 17th May 1977, after considering memorandum XCC(77)50, Members advised and the Governor ordered:

(a) that the adult single fares for cross harbour passenger
ferry Services run by the Hong Kong and Yaumati Ferry Company should be increased from thiety cents to forty cents, with effect from 1st July 1977 and the monthly season ticket from $12 to $16; and
(b) that the draft resolution, at Annex C to the memorandum,
should be introduced into the Legislative Council.
The resolution to give effect to these changes was made in the Legislative Council on 1st June 1977.

During this period, the Hong Kong and Yaumati Ferry Company (HYF) has also taken measures to improve its operational efficiency:
(a) research into automation and mechanisation of the
operation of ferry services. (This has resulted in a decrease of outdoor staff employed from the 1974 figure of 1598 to 1488 in 1979(; and
(b) sale of cost-ineffective and spare vessels. (During
1979 one Yarrow type ferry and three Water Taxis have been sold, making a total of 14 vessels sold since 1974.)
