REDEVELOPMENT OF KOWLOON PERMANENT PIERS NOS 6, 7 AND 54 HONG KONG AND KOWLOON

WHARF AND GODOWN COMPANY LIMITED

Annex A

The leases for Kowloon Fermanent Piers Nos 6, 7 and 54, the lessee of which is the Hong Kong and Kowloon Wharf and Godown Company Limited, are due to expire on 31st December 1979. The leased areas of the piers are:

Kowloon Permanent Pier No 54

37, 048 square feet

49, 862 square feet.

These piers are shown outlined pink on the plan at Annex.

Each lease contains the following user conditions:

"Not to use or permit the said pier to be used for any purpose other than that of the usual business of the Lessee without the written consent of the Governor.

Not to use or permit the said pier to be used for the storage of materials or goods of any description (other than the gear required for working the said pier) except with the special permission of the Director of Public Works; nor to permit such materials or goods except as aforesaid to remain on the said pier beyond the time reasonably required for transit

purposes.

Upon the expiry of the pier leases in December 1979 the piers will become the property of the Crown. However, as there is no separate access to them from the land other than through the present lessee's lots, the normal practice would be to negotiate a renewed term. But by 1979 the Company's godown and wharf business from the lots will have substantially reduced, and the Company will have redeveloped most of the parent lots. There will thus no longer be any significant marine use for the piers.

The Company has accordingly made proposals for developing Piers Nos 6 and 7 for recreational purposes by building sports facilities such as squash courts and badminton courts, a swimming pool and other
