The Prime Minister has asked me to reply to your letter of 12 July about compensation for property in Tsuen Wan which has been resumed in connection with the construction of the Mass Transit Railway in Hong Kong.
I understand that you had a meeting with the Head of the Hong Kong and General Department in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office before your return to Hong Kong, and that the points which you made have been brought to the attention of the Hong Kong Government. I also understand that discussions about the clearance of the Sai Lau Kok buildings are continuing in Hong Kong. Mrs. Thatcher hopes that it will be possible to reach a satisfactory solution of the outstanding problems in accordance with the provisions of Hong Kong law.
Councillor Elsie Elliott, C.B.E.
