The Sai Lau Kok flats range in size from about 250 to 400 sq. ft.; no lifts in the buildings, ventilation and lighting are poor, the stairways and corridors are dark and narrow.

The Government, therefore, approached the developers of the Allway Gardens complex and arranged the reservation of a large number of flats for potential buyers from Sai Lau Kok. The Allway Gardens complex is in direct contrast to Sai Lau Kok it is a modern landscaped housing area in one of the best locations in north Tsuen Wan and, when completed, will offer a full range of amenities, including :

Department Store;

Supermarket, markets, bank, post office, retail shops,

beauty parlour, launários;

Restaurant ani cafes;

Schools and community facilities;

Landscaped gardens and children's play area;

Service station, bus terminal and 1,000 car parking spaces.

They are infinitely superior in every way to Sai Lau Kok and in these circumstances the Government feels that it has been fair and reasonable in helping owners to find new, bigger and fur better premises in a clean and wholesome family environment at very little extra cost to those who accepted the offer.

Those owners who preferred to take up the first offer and also did very well as the majority af families with four or more persons went to Cheung Shan Estate, genrally regarded as one of the most

states attractive public housing in the New Territories.

Cheung Shan is built at the top of the Shing Mun Valley and commands views of the surronding scenic spots and looks down on the rapidly developing town centrs or Tsuen Wan New Town.

Like all modern Housing Authority estates, it has a self-contained community environment with a primary and secondary school, a kindergarten, parking spaces, community facilities, a restaurait, cafe and supermarlict. The estate's commercial complex has 41 market stalls and 10 cooked food stalls and a whole range of retail shops.

The size of the flats ranges from 250 sq. ft. to 450 sq. ft. with rents pitched at between $270 and $450 per month.
