POSSIBLE ROYAL NAVY VISITS TO CHINA AND THE SOVIET UNION

I attach a copy of a letter from the MOD to Defence Department on this hoary old subject.

You will see from this that Defence Department have agreed with the MOD that we should put up a proposal to our Secretary of State, together with a draft letter to the Secretary of State for Defence, setting out the FCO views on a ship visit to China, and possibly the Soviet Union.

3. I attach a draft submission, together with a draft letter. I should be grateful for any views by close of play, Monday, 22 October.
