Further to my letter of 12 June, I now enclose a copy of the convention for the extension of Hong Kong, 1898. You will see that it was signed in Peking on 9 June, 1898, and was to come into force on 1 July 1898. It was ratified on 6 August 1898.

The term of the lease is 99 years, which ran from 1 July 1898. The date of expiry would therefore be 30 June 1997. I hope this information will be of use to you.
