During the Governor's visit the Chinese raised the issue of Chinese official representation in Hong Kong and Huang Hua expressed the hope that we would consider the presence of an official representative. The Governor said that, while the

time would probably come for official representation, if it happened now it would disturb people just as co-operation was improving. The Governor hoped the Chinese would reconsider and he undertook to do anything necessary to improve the

practical arrangements whereby the representative of the New China

News Agency handles contacts between Hong Kong and the Chinese

Government. The matter rests there for the time being.
