GOVERNOR OF HONG KONG'S VISIT TO LONDON: CALL ON THE PRIME MINISTER

1. The Prime Minister has agreed to see Sir Murray MacLehose at

1800 on Thursday, 14 June. Mr Cartledge has asked for briefing to

reach him by 1700 on Tuesday, 12 June.

2.

I submit a draft letter from the Private Secretary to

Mr Cartledge covering briefing material on Vietnamese refugees,

immigration from China into Hong Kong, the Governor's request for reinforcement of the garrison, China/Hong Kong relations, and

the problem of land leases in the New Territories.

The brief on

reinforcement has been cleared with the Ministry of Defence.

A fact sheet on Hong Kong and a biographical note on Sir M MacLehose

are also attached.
