ROUND-UP MEETING WITH SIR MURRAY MACLEHOSE AT1600 HOURS TO AY

After you had left the first meeting with Sir Murray on Wednesday, Mr Cortazzi said that the following subjects should be discussed this afternoon:-

(a) Leases Legal Aspects and Tactics

(b) Legal Immigration from China

(c) Official Chinese Representation in Hong Kong

(d) Repatriation of those Illegal Immigrants who had reached

the urban area you will recall the Executive Council minute on this.

At a meeting in Mr Cortazzi's office which I attended this morning, he said that he wished to clear with Sir murray the topics to be included in the brief on Hong kong for the Secretary 01 Ltate's visit. The topics that were agreed this morning were:

Ki) New Territories Leases

(ii) Latest Position on:

(iii) keinforcement

(iv) Air Services

(v) U1/liong Kong Trade

(a) Vietnamese Refugees- (b) Immigration from Chină

(vi) Chinese Official kepresentation in long kong✔ (vii) British Nationality Law

(viii) Hong Kong/China relations ✔

(ix) possibly, a defensive brief on the increase in

tuition fees for overseas post-secondary students.

3. It was also agreed at the end of the last meeting that it would be useful to have a final round-up meeting with Sir Murray after his return from Geneva. It was agreed that the morning of Tuesday 26 June was the most appropriate. Unless this has already been done, this date and the time, venue and attendance need to be agreed.
