BRIEFS FOR MEETINGS WITH THE PRIME MINISTER

1. At yesterday's morning meeting the PUS said that any briefs prepared for meetings with the Prime Minister (including and especially meetings attended by FCO Ministers) attached to the briefs should be notes for supplementaries including any detail which the Prime Minister may seek. These notes should be similar in form to the notes prepared for replies to PQs but should of course also include appropriate Confidential informa- tion. The covering brief should naturally be self-contained and as short as possible.

2. The PUS also noted that the Prime Minister listens a great deal to the radio and is likely to expect instant comments from her Ministers. It is therefore important that in briefs for Cabinet or other Ministerial meetings note should be taken of the latest reports on the radio. Indeed, if a radio report affecting countries for which we are responsible appears we should provide an instant comment to the Private Office.
