development and tourist agencies often worked together: they had set offices up in Europe and America side by side, since enquiries from businessmen of the Trade Development Council often led to related enquiries about travel and touristic requirements. Mr Lü said that the Ministry of Foreign Trade was planning to establish a trade centre in Peking in which the General Administration of Tourism and Travel would have some offices. The Governor said that most people spent 2 or 3 days in Hong Kong on business. If they spent 2 more days to rest this would mean that they would spend 40 per cent more money. Mr Lu said that they intended to set up offices abroad because the Embassies could not cope with all of the work, especially in Japan, the United States and some European countries. Also, the existing China Travel Service offices in Hong Kong would need to be strengthened. He hoped that he would be able to send some of his staff to Hong Kong to stay. The Governor welcomed this. He fully understood China's desire to expand her tourist industry and Hong Kong wished to cooperate in every way.
