The limiting factor will continue to be terminal capacity but the following improvements are anticipated :

(a)

a new CTS godown at Hung Hom (allowing 24 hours a day handling of goods);

(b) new unloading facilities at Mongkok;

(c)

a small additional facility at Sha Tin;

(a)

a private dry goods siding at Fo Tan in full use;

(e) possibly an abattoir at Sheung Shui (reducing the through trains to Hong Kong of livestock consumed in the New Territories);

(f) retention of facilities at Ho Man Tin, currently

held on a temporary, three-year basis.

Summary on freight traffic

Both the short and medium term requirements of freight traffic from China should be capable of being met with proper planning and organisation. If terminal facilities subsequently still act as a limiting factor, provision of additional space at Hung Hom by reclamation may have to be considered.
