UK Assurances to China about Soviet

and KMT Activities

In May 1976 the Chinese Foreign Minister, Ch'iao Kuen-hua spoke in Peking to the Foreign Secretary, Mr Crosland, about the use of Hong Kong by "the KMT clique" and the Soviet Union and its satellites as a base for intelligence and infiltration.

Mr Crosland said that "the British Government does not tolerate and has no intention of tolerating the use of Hong Kong for subversive activities against the People's Republic".
