MR WALTER EASEY
1. Please refer to your minute of 22 August to Mr Tyrer of OID.
In the event 2. I arranged to see Mr Easey, on 4 September.
He had found the Nakhodka Seminar totally he had little to tell. uninteresting, with most of the contributions parrotting routine Soviet propaganda. (The attached copy of the one report I have
There were, he thinks, seen in the Soviet Press gives the flavour)
a number of more restricted meetings which might have been useful; but he (no doubt because of his more pro-CPR stance) was not able to gain access to them.
3.
His biggest disappointment was his failure to contact Mr Viktor Fersht, whom he has not yet met in the flesh. Fersht
he was apparently was not present at the Nakhodka gathering: busy at the 14th Pacific Science Congress being held concurrently in Khabarovsk. Mr Easey's efforts to see Mr Fersht in Khabarovsk
Incidentally, on his return journey to Moscow proved of no avail.
his appearance this was Mr Easey's first visit to the Soviet Union: on Soviet TV, referred to in Mr Ling's minute of 20 July, was the result of some film footage taken in Amsterdam at a Hong Kong- related gathering.
