The Secretary-General of the United Nations presents his compliments

to the Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to the United Nations

and has the honour to inform him that the Secretariat has officially

adopted, as from 15 June 1979, the new spelling system known as Pinyin for the names of Chinese nationals and of places and geographical features of the People's Republic of China.

Instructions issued within the Secretariat for the conversion to

Pinyin are attached for the Permanent Representative's information.
