18. We hope to conclude an Air Services Agreement with the

Chinese Government in the near future. A negotiating team

from the Department of Trade is currently in Peking discussing the question with the Chinese Government.

9. As I made clear in the House on the 18th of May we Jelcome the present Chinese leadership's positive and outward looking foreign policy. We hope that they will exert their very considerable influence, particularly in :he developing world in the interest of international

stability and prosperity.

Sino/Soviet relations

20. We have noted the exchanges between China and the Soviet Union on the possibility of holding talks on their

bilateral relations. We welcome this as we welcome any

noves towards a reduction of tension in the area.

factor for stability and peace.
