Dear Dr. Joy.
28 September 1979
I am sorry I did not have the chance to thank you personally before I left the Institute on Wednesday. Of course I quite understand your practice of working at home sometimes and would not have wished you to make a special trip to the IDS on my account.
We had a very useful series of discussions on the dependent territories. Whilst we didn't exactly get answers to all our questions, we have a number of useful ideas to explore further. I was pleased to hear that the Institute has also derived some benefit from our Seminar; I hope that there will now be closer cooperation between Percy Selwyn and the Commonwealth Secretariat on the problems of small states, and between the Institute and our own Research Department generally.
Special thanks for the success of our Seminar are due to Percy Selwyn who, as our main link in the planning, was always very helpful and patient with what must have seemed an unending list of questions; to Darrell Jackson and your housekeeper Wendy to whose care for the many administrative details, including the excellent meals, we owe the convivial and relaxed atmosphere that existed amongst the participants; and last, but by no means least, to Tommy Gee and his wife who so generously allowed us to invade their house on Tuesday night when a good time was had by all.
Your fincerely, Dich Shrathon
