In November 1978 the Progressive Democratic Party of P Austin Bramble
lost all seats in the Montserrat Legislature to John Osborne's People's
Liberation Movement.
Economic
Montserrat's economy is expanding slowly. The main sectors are agri-
culture, tourism, light manufacturing industries, banking and real estate
development.
Aid
Montserrat is in receipt of both UK Budgetary Aid and Development Aid.
As the island has a small domestic market with few natural resources the
aid programme which is running at approximately £800,000 per year is being
concentrated on building up the infrastructure with the objectives of
improvement and diversification of the economy and job creation. Air
communications are being improved which should benefit the tourist industry.
