The negotiations are still at an early stage, but it has been made clear to the Islanders that when they feel the time has come for them to take a direct part in the negotiations, Falkland Islanders will be welcome as part of the British delegation. This is fully accepted by the Argentine Government.

HMMG has a large aid programme to the Falkland Islands. Construction of the permanent airfield at Port Stanley was completed last year at a cost of some 36 million. Work will start this year on the construction of a 60 mile road between Port Stanley and the second largest settlement at Darwin and also on a new school hostel which will enable secondary education to be concentrated in Port Stanley.
