DEPENDENT TERRITORIES SENIOR APPOINTMENTS BOARD (DTSAB)

1. I mentioned to you recently that there was some doubt about whether or not the DTSAB would go ahead. As you will probably know, the PUS and Chief Clerk have decided that thes Board should go ahead but that it should then be wound up. The proposal also is that no Minister should be appointed to sit on the final Board but that it should submit its recommendations through Mr Ridley and Mr Hurd to the Secretary of State.

2. I now enclose draft briefs for the Board. These put forward the candidates agreed at our meeting of 10 May. There is just a chance that there may be a third HMOCS candidate put forward for Montserrat - a Mr Robert Sanders at present Secretary to the Cabinet in Fiji but I presume that, since no DS candidate has been put forward for this vacancy, you will not be concerned.

3. All Job Descriptions have been prepared by the relevant geographical departments who have also agreed the "Requirements of the Post" section of each brief. CVs for the Montserrat candidates have been agreed by Mr Duff.

In view of the approaching Public Holiday, we now have very little time to get the briefs prepared, typed and distributed. Ideally this should be done this week. I should be most grateful therefore if you could kindly clear them on your side as soon as possible. I shall keep a copy and if you could give me a ring about any amendments, perhaps we could clear them over the telephone.

5.

Finally, may I please have the CVs of your candidates back, if possible in advance of the briefs so that we can get ahead with typing them.
