Mr McEntee was born on 27 June 1920 and educated in Kenya and at Haileybury. He joined the King's African Rifles in 1939 and served in various parts of Kenya, being demobilised in 1946 in the rank of Major.

He joined the Colonial Service in 1946 and was sent to Kenya where he served initially as a District Officer. He subse- quently served as a District Commissioner and Senior District Commissioner and in 1960 was appointed African Courts Officer, later becoming Principal of the Kenya Institute of Administration. He retired from HMOCS in 1963 to take up an appointment as a Principal in the Commonwealth Relations Office. He was posted to Lagos in 1964 as a First Secretary and from 1967 served on the Nigerian desk in West African Department. Thereafter he spent three years in Commonwealth Co-ordination Department before being posted in 1972 to Karachi as Consul- General on promotion to DS4. He was appointed Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Belize in June 1976, which post he still holds. He was promoted sur place to DS3 in November 1978 on the regrading of the post.

Mr McEntee was awarded the OBE in the New Year Honours 1963 and the CMG in the Birthday Honours 1978.

He is married with two adult daughters.

Mr McEntee is a very capable officer who established himself quickly in the Diplomatic Service and has done well in all his overseas postings. He is energetic, resourceful and resilient. During his tenure of the Governorship of Belize it has become an increasingly important and exposed job and he has risen to its demands admirably.
