Mr Papadopoulos was born on 12 August 1923 in Cyprus and entered

Cyprus Government service after completing his secondary

education in Cyprus.

In 1943 he was sent from there to service in Eritrea.

He was

there for 10 years rising from Chief Clerk to Assistant

Political Secretary and Personal Assistant to the Chief

Administrator. From 1953 to 1958 he reverted to the Cyprus

Government working both in the Secretariat and in the districts

concentrating latterly on press work in the Secretariat.

1958 he was brought out to London because of the troubles and

in 1959 was sent out to Tanganyika in the HMOCS. He served

as Assistant Secretary in the Office of the Chief Secretary and

subsequently as Deputy Controller of Information Services.

From 1961 to 1964 he served in Malta as Director of British

Information Services and subsequently transferred into the

Diplomatic Service. From 1965 he spent 3 years in Nairobi,

again on information work, before being brought home to London

for three years in the Foreign Office's UN (Political) Depart-

ment. From 1971 to 1974 he served as First Secretary and

Head of Chancery in Colombo. He was then briefly Counsellor

(Information) in Washington and then for three years Counsellor

and Head of Chancery in Havana.

Since 1977 he has been HM

Ambassador in San Salvador.
