a) he is fascinated by the Turks and Caicos Islands
and their problems and at present has no desire to
duck out before he has had a good crack at solving
them;
b) Mr Strong sees his suggested transfer to Grand Cayman
as precipitating the premature retirement of Mr Russell,
a man whom he regards as having colonial experience of
a width and depth that this Government cannot afford
to jettison. This means I think that we should not
plan in terms of Mr Strong moving on at the end of any
fixed period but should review his position and wishes
some time later this year.

I agree about Mr Wyn Jones, who was I thought even less impressive at the Governors' Conference than back on his home ground.
2. Mr Strong repeated to me that he thought he had a worth- while job to do in the TCI and told me in terms that he had no wish to be transferred to the Cayman Islands but would prefer to see out his remaining time in Grand Turk.
