1. We have been trying to arrange a suitable date for the next meeting of the DTSAB and it seems that Wednesday 9 May is convenient for all members of the Board.

2. However, after his PA had confirmed the date Mr Alexander telephoned me to say that in view of the uncertainty of Mr McEntee's retirement date he did not think that they would necessarily be able to let us have DS names for this vacancy in time for the date fixed. He asked me whether we were only to consider the Governor- ships of Falklands and Belize or whether there were other vacancies to be considered. On being assured by me that there were others he said that he was happy for the Board to go ahead.

3. I have since had another look at Mr McEntee's letter to Mr Forster about his retirement date and see that he is pretty definite that he will go at the end of the year. It is possible that if an election is delayed in Belize he might stay on until January. It seems to me therefore that this is not much of an excuse for Mr Alexander going back on the undertaking which he gave in his minute of 18 January 1979 that it would be reasonable to aim for a DTSAB meeting around Easter. We are now planning it some weeks after Easter and he is still unsure about whether he will have any DS names to put forward.

In para 3 of my minute of 20 December 1978 I have itemised the various vacancies which will be put to the next Board. you will see the Governorships of Falklands and Belize are by far the most important. If therefore there is uncertainty on the part of POD, perhaps we should think again about when to hold the Board. You may wish to have a word with Mr Alexander about it.
