MINUTES OF THE DEPENDENT TERRITORIES SENIOR APPOINTMENTS BOARD

1.

A meeting of the Dependent Territories Senior Appoint-

ments Board was held on 4 June 1979 at 11 am in the Permanent

Under-Secretary's room at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office

3. The Chairman informed the Board that he had given carefu

thought to the way in which senior appointments in the

Dependent Territories were handled in the Office and had

reached the conclusion that there was no longer any need for

special machinery. He had accordingly recommended to the

Secretary of State that the Board should be wound up after

its present meeting and that Dependent Territories appoint-

ments should in future be dealt with by the appropriate

Diplomatic Service Boards. The Chairman added that this was

no reflection on the usefulness of the Board in the past:

was simply that times had changed. He was particularly
