GOVERNORS TERMS OF SERVICE
159221 Action on _Ramsbotham/P.;
P.F.
Please refer to the correspondence ending with my letter of the 13 October in reply to yours (HKA 434/1 of 3 October 1978) about Governors' terms of service. In a month or so I shall be wanting to book air passages for my wife and myself for our mid-tour leave in the UK. I should be grateful if you could let me know whether I may expect that the FCO will be able to pay the air fares for us?
There is one other aspect of a Governor's "terms of service" on which we are probably losing out at present at least as far as Bermuda is concerned - and that is the expenses incurred when one is returning to the UK at the completion of the appointment. In my case, this will be retirement and, as I shall continue to be nominally "seconded" from the Diplomatic Service until I cease being Governor, I would hope that the FCO would be prepared to cover the cost of our final removal expenses at that time. The FCO paid for the move of our effects from Washington to Bermuda, so I would hope that they could also do this for our final move back to the UK. The Government of Bermuda have no obligations in this respect, and I very much doubt whether they would be prepared to help me when the time
comes
(probably in twoyears time).
