BRITISH SUPPLEMENTATION SCHEMES: COMPASSIONATE PASSACES

The current arrangements relating to the reimbursement by HMG of the cost of compassionate passages for supplemented staff are set out in the circular savingram SA 201/210/01 of 30 October 1963 (in the case of OBAS officers) and in letters to posts between March and July 1976 (in the case of BESC/PSSS staff).

As a result of a recent review of compassionate passage arrangements it has been agreed here that we ought to be prepared to reimburse the passage costs when an officer or his/her spouse travels to the country of origin on the death of a parent without it being necessary to establish that there is no other relative in the country of origiz capable of handling the situation.

In the case of BES3/PSSS staff we are also prepared to drop the requirement that there should be no other relative capable of handling the situation in the case of compassionate passages granted on the death of a spouse or a child of the marriage. This will bring the rules for all categories of supplemented staff into line.

Would British High Commissioners and the Ambassador, Khartoum inform Governments to which they are accredited, and also BEC/PSSS employing authorities where appropriate of this amendment to compassionate passage rules, and confirm that HMG will reimburse in the usual way any additional costs arising from the application of the amended rules with effect from the date of this Circular Savingram.
