My circular cavingrum· SA 201/210/01 of 22nd Janury, 1965.
Under cover of my circular savingtem under reference a note was circulnked, for the guidance of overseas governments participating in the Overseas Service Aid Scheme, setting out the circumstances in which the British Covernment would be prepared to contribute from 0.S.A.S. funds towards the cost of passages granted to designated officers on compassionate grounds.

Following recent discussions here, it has been decided to extend the circumstances in which we are prepared to contribute to cover:-

(a) compassionato passages for an officer or his wife in
connection with the dangerous illness or death of their legal guardian;
(b) provision that a wife, who is granted a compassionate
passage, may be accompanied at public expense by her children wäer the age of two years;
and
(c) compensionate passages for the close relatives of a
designated officer who is very seriously ill, to enable them to visit him in the overscas territory.

For convenience, a revised guidance note is enclosed, incorporating these extensions and defining more precisely the new provision covering visits by close relatives.

While we trust that overscas governments will considor applications for compassionate passages sympathetically, it is emphasised that the grant of such passages is a matter for the discretion of the overseas government which employs the designated officer concerned and that the purpose of the enclosed note is solely to define the crownstances in which the British Government will meet ita appropriate share of the cost from 0.3.A.3. funds.
