Following an exhaustive review carried out by Civil Service Branch, it was concluded that there was no significant increase in job complexity for the majority of Tax Inspector II but 12 posts of Tax Inspector II should be upgraded to Tax Inspector I to recognise the increase in responsibilities. This was done towards the end of 1977 thus giving a de facto promotion ratio for Tax Inspector II to Tax Inspector I of 1 : 2. This did not satisfy the Tax Inspector Unit. The Unit protested against the decision not to grant an across-the-board improvement to the pay scales in a letter dated 1.6.78.

The Unit was dated 16.11.78 rebutting the points raised in their letter of 1.6.78 in detail. It is possible that the Unit may resort to industrial action to press their demands.
