**The Lord Brockway ---- To ask Hor Majesty's Government whether they will recommend to the Governor of Hong Kong payment to the four hundred shorthand-audiotypists employed by the government on a scale equivalent to the increases given to other female staffs under the equal pay scheme.

My Lords, I cannot give the assurance asked for by my noble Friend.

I am, however, taking steps to get negotiations between the

Hong Kong Government and the Shorthand and Audio-Typists' Association re-opened.
