DESCRIPTION
Sets up, for others to operate, machine tools such as automatic lathes, capstan and turret lathes and other metal cutting machines to produce components to drawings and specifications.

In addition to all the essential skills specified for the machinist, a machine setter must also have the ability to :-
1. Select correct cutting tools, feeds,
speeds, coolants and lubricants according to the type of machine tools, the material to be machined and the surface finish required.
2.
Set and adjust tools, stops, cams and guards.
3. Select and use jigs and fixtures.
4.
Plan sequence of operations to secure the most economic methods of production.
5. Recognize common machining defects and
their causes. and take corrective action.
6. Instruct operators in the safe and effective use of machine tools.
7.
Carry out all necessary safety precautions in the work for which he is responsible.
In addition to all the essential skills specified for the machinist, a machine setter must also have the knowledge of :-

1. Automatic, semi-automatic and special
purpose machine tools.
2. Process and operation planning.
