I am glad to be able to tell you that there has now been progress towards resolving the dispute between the Hong Kong Government and their Shorthand and Audio Typists Association (SATA).
The Secretary for the Civil Service in Hong Kong announced on 30 June that a fresh pay review covering the whole of the secretarial class will begin in October this year. SATA have been told that they, together with representatives of the other secretarial staff associations, will be invited to discuss the survey with the Controller of the Pay Investigation Unit before it starts.
I understand that the committee of SATA have welcomed this initiative. The new Chairman of the Association, Miss Belinda So, is reported by the Hong Kong press as saying that she expects it to lead to eventual settlement of the dispute.
