Thank you for your letter of 1 August about the Shorthand and Audio Typists's (SATA) dispute with the Hong Kong Government.
The
I am pleased to say there has been encouraging progress in settling this long-standing dispute. Secretary for the Civil Service in Hong Kong announced on 30 June that a fresh pay review covering all secretarial grades will begin in October this year. SATA have been told that they, together with representatives of the other secretarial staff associations, will be invited to discuss the survey with the Controller of the Pay Investigation Unit before it starts.
I understand that the Committee of SATA have welcomed this initiative. The new Chairman of the Association, Miss Belinda So (your correspondent, Miss Vivien So has recently left Hong Kong Government Service) is reported by the Hong Kong Press as saying that she expects it to lead to an eventual settlement.
Yours
sincerely,
