should the present package be modified to include fresh benefits, then these, too, could be back-dator if appropriate. If they included financial considerations, it would require the prior approval of Finance Committee. benefits would of course be applied where appropriate, irrespective of whether the officers concârned had already opted or not.

In respect of paragraphs 2(f) and (a), he would of course consider any arguments put forward by the Shorthand Audio Typists Unit separately. Though the grades in the Secretarial Class were inter related, if one grade put forward good arguments and if they were accepted the arrangerents could be changed for that group.

He further added that it was not an unchangeable package deal. If there were sufficient evidence, he might consider changes.

He had not been persuaded by the evidence which had been produced so far that further change to the package was required. However, the Official fide was always ready to take a fresh look at new proposals. The continuance of consultations was not a matter which was dependent upon options. A substantial proportion of the Class had already opted. hose who had not would not be precluded from benefits conferred in the future.

He looked forward to receiving the frosh submissions which had been referred to hy both Unit Committees. Consultations were, however, unlikely to be assisted by poster campaigns which brought both Sides into disrepute in the eyes of the public or by statements to the press which (whether intentionally or not) appeared inaccurate or misleading. Consultation was an internel matter and not one to be conducted via the meria. Rc did not intend to issue a press release following the present meeting; with this the staff rice agreed. He looked forward to the early resumption of discussions between both Sides.

Both Unit Committees said that they would forward fresh submissions, The Official Cife undertook to reply to the letter of 29th April from the SATS Unit as quickly as possible.

The meeting closed at 17.35 hours.
