Transfer of Shorthand/Audio Typists, to
the Clerical Class in the rank of Clerical Officer II
It has been agreed by the Secretary for the Civil Service that following the restructuring of the Secretarial Class there shall be ONE in-service exercise for appointment to Clerical Officer II for Shorthand/Audio Typists who were in post on or before 31st March 1976, and who-had passes in five subjects, including English Language (Syllabus B) at Grade E or above, in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education or an equivalent academic qualification.

Shorthand/Audio Typists who meet the above requirements may apply for transfer to the rank of Clerical Officer II. Those who apply and who after a consideration of their record and an interview are found suitable for appointment as Clerical Officers II will, subject to vacancies, be appointed during the calendar year 1977. Details of Post for Clerical Officer II are:-

selected for transfer will have their entry point governed by the provisions of Civil Service Regulation 130;
Duties general clerical work;
Appointment
(i) if already confirmed to the permanent and pensionable establishment service
in the rank of Clerical Officer II will be
on trial for two years; or,
(ii) if on temporary terms or on probation service
will be on probation for three years.

Seniority will be based on the date of appointment on transfer to the rank of Clerical Officer II;
(e) Proficiency Examination during the period of probation
or trial, officers are required to sit and pass a proficiency examination. The aim of the examination is to test knowledge on the work of the clerical service, Government rules, regulations and procedures. The proficiency examinat- ion is a requirement for confirmation. Those who fail to pass the examination, will either be reverted to their former rank or have their services terminated, as appropriate; (f). Service Shorthand/Audio Typists selected for transfer
may be posted to any Government department.
