Ether, Alcohol, Ammonia, Hydrochloric Acid, Chloroform, Activated Charcoal. Sodium Carbonate

Note: Explosions have resulted from

the careless use of ether in heroin factories, particularly where at- tempts have been made to recover it by distillation.

Hydrochloric Acid (Concentrated) Description: a colourless liquid with

an acrid odour.

Controls: Pharmacy and Poisons Ordinance, Poisons List, Part II. Dangerous Goods (Classification) Regulations, Category 3 (corrosive substances).

Note: Hydrochloric acid is corrosive and should be carefully handled. White fumes will be seen coming from the container when the stopper is removed.

Sodium Carbonate

Description: a white powder Controls: Nil

Additives and Diluents Caffeine

Description: glistening white crystals

which are matted together. Usually found as compressed squares or rectangular slabs which can be re- duced to crystals by crushing be- tween the fingers.

Controls: Nil

Barbitone (Diethyl Barbituric Acid) Description: usually found in slightly impure granular form, often off- white in colour. Controls: Dangerous Drugs Ording-

ance (First Schedule, Part I). Note: Barbitone is classified as a dangerous drug in Hong Kong be- cause it was commonly mixed with
