Min. Luard: At present in the United States of America 93 people are engaged in information work. Or these 82 are locally employed staff. They are deployed in the following cities: Adanta, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Les Angeles, New York, St. Louis, San Francisco and Wash- ington.

already settled in the United Kingdom, to help them prepare their applications. Veri- fication of the applications will remain entirely in the hands of our high com- mission in Dacca. The number of depend- ants coming to the United Kingdom is unlikely to change.
For the reasons given in the report “A Register of Dependants "-Cind. 6598– it is not possible to arrive at a reliable estimate of the number of dependants who are entitled to come to the United Kingdom from Bangladesh.
Mr. Brotherten asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what discussions he has been hav- ing with the Bangladesh Government con- cerning the arrangements for admission to the United Kingdom of dependents of immigrants resident in the United King-
dom.
Mr. Luard: My right hon. Friend has had no discussions with the Bangladesh Government on this subject, but the latter have informed our high commission in Dacca that they intend to expand their own advisory services for dependants applying to join men already settled in the United Kingdom. The object is to help them prepare and submit their applica- tions for entry clearance to our high com- mission in Dacca. Verification of the applications will remain entirely in the hands of our high commission in Dacca. A similar operation by the Immigrants Advisory Service of Pakistan has operated successfully for some years.
Hong Kong (Drug Addiction)
Mr. Ron Lewis asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement regard- ing the curtailment of the drug problem in Hong Kong.
Mr. Luard: My right hon. Friend is satisfied that, although drug addiction remains one of Hong Kong's major prob- lens. the action now being taken by the Hong Kong Government is on a scale commensurate with the problem. Eradica- tion of drug abuse is a long-term goal, but there are encouraging signs that the problem is being contained.
