On the evening of 1 February 1978, officers of the Wan Chai Division special duty squad received information that a quantity of heroin was being stored inside flats A and B, 18 floor, Po Wah Court, Yuk Sau Street, Happy Valley. On entering flat 'B' they discovered a heroin laboratory and 8.3784 kilos of freshly made No 3 heroin, along with 18.05 litres of acetic anhydride. Quantities of chloroform, caffeine, charcoal, sodium carbonate and other additives and paraphenalia were present.
2 Three Chinese males and a female were detained in flat 'A', but, after enquires by Narcotics Bureau, who took over the case, they were released. Investigations are still continuing, and although no person has been charged in connection with this case, the principal suspect was apprehended inside a heroin factory discovered at a later date and may yet be charged with this offence.
