1. On 31 August, you wrote to the Military Secretary in the Ministry of Defence asking for his assistance with the Hong Kong Government's efforts to recruit retired army officers to fill two vacancies at Chief Superintendent level in the Royal Hong Kong Police Force.
2. As a result, we received details of six officers: three Flags B & C from the Officers' Association and three direct from the MOD. We have passed brief details to Hong Kong and full details to the Hong Kong Government office here, who will carry out the recruitment. Although not all the candidates exactly match the requirements, I believe there is a reasonable chance that one or two of them could prove suitable. You might consider it appropriate to write a letter of thanks to the Military Secretary, on the lines of the attached draft.
