For their part, the Police have probably been relieved by the relative leniency of the treatment; the officers concerned have been allowed to retain all their normal terminal benefits. Since: no reasons were given for the dismissals, there is no formal accusation of corruption against them.

7. In the meantime, action is being taken to investigate the general malaise within the Royal Hong Kong Police Force. Three senior British police experts, led by Mr James Crane, one of HM Inspectors of Constabulary, are at present in Hong Kong at the invitation of the Governor investigating the causes of recent problems. It is hoped that their final report will be presented to the Governor within the next few weeks, and that action will be rapidly taken to implement any changes they may recommend.
