Please refer to correspondence about the visit to London by four representatives of the police officers dismissed earlier this year under CR 55, resting with your telegram No 1437 (which we will answer separately by telegraph).
2. You may wish to see the enclosed copies of an exchange of correspondence between Mr Eldon Griffiths Mp and Lord Goronwy- Roberts. Griffiths is the only MP who has so far written to Ministers on this subject. Bob Parry raised it when he called on Lord Goronwy-Roberts on 14 December; the Minister of State did his best to discourage Parry from pursuing it. Roderick MacFarquhar telephoned me to ask for background, saying tht he had received a request for a meeting with the four former officers. I wrote to him on the lines of Lord Goronwy-Roberts' letter to Griffiths after having given him a rather fuller account of the reasons why action was taken under CR 55 on the telephone.
3. Other MPs who have been approached may have forgotten about the matter by the time they return to Westminster after the Christmas recess; let us hope so.
