JUNIOR POLICE OFFICERS' ASSOCIATION

1.

Thank you for your letter SCR 6/2801/77 SFG of 30 January. It was very useful to have this more detailed information.

Clearly it is not for us to interfere in the tactics of your future relations with the JPOA but I can see the sense of your view that a confrontation, if it is to come, should be on grounds of your choosing. We would, of course, hope. that any confrontation could be avoided. Presumably the risk will recede if the elections produce a reasonable leadership.

3. It is reassuring to know that your assessment of public opinion is that it would support firm action in the

Yau Ma Tei case. As you will no doubt have seen from our telegrams, the Secretary of State has given the Governor his full support.

4. I would be grateful if you could continue to let me have your thinking on this issue whenever it is appropriate.
