I have sat here throughout the enquiry. Listing to the evidence.

I am M.B.B.S. Hong Kong F.R.C. Psych United Kingdảm. Diploma in Psychological Medicine, London. Qualified 20 years, 18 years in psychiatric work. I

think LIU Ping Hon not suffering mental disorder but is under emotional

strain for some duration.

Many suicides can occur in people with mental disorder but

there are many others in which suicide occurs without people having

mental disorder.

In my experience of 200 or 300 cases of suicides and attempted

suicides I think when a person is under emotional strain for some time he

is more liable to yield to any suicidal impulse which may occur in his

mind from time to time.

A stable personality, Well liked by teachers and respected

by his friends but I must point out that suicide can occur in persons of

all types of personality. A stable personality is not immune to

suicidal act. Majority of people express some suicidal intention

or warning to someone but about 1/3 of suicidal cases suicide can occur

as surprise to relatives and friends. Only 15% of cases of suicide leave

any suicidal note or message.

Statistics from partly a book called "Suicide" by Dr. Stengle

statistics are in line with my own experience.

His post can be regareded as a kind of stress job new to

him and busy and situation seems to be quite complicated. Whether

this is real or imagined is not important but that is how he perceived

situation there.

In letter to friend he mentioned he was anxious, nervous, worried.

Felt insecure thought his staff might play tricks on him and compared

his situation as working in a survival course in jungle. This shows he

feels considerable amount of insecurity in his job and this anxiety

associated with a feeling of insecurity is sufficient cause to consider

that suicide is a possibility in this case.

We must remember before this time understandably he must have

anxiety re result of degree examination and chances of getting a job.

He might have difficulty in hariling correspondence independently -

e.g. note-book in office and his discussion with about a simple

memorandum.
