I am quite surprised to know your Department has an intention to order a demolition on the cottage and houses located at the road-side at Tai Hang Village, Tai Po. The said cottages and houses are the traditional structure of quite long time ago. I am one of the permenant residendt s among those.
My house is numbered 2, at Tai Hang Village. I use it to carry on business more than twenty years, under the title MAN WO STORE. By means of my shop thereat I support the living of my whole family.
You are expected to know my house, the said No.2, was built by me. I obtained the side to build it from the owner of the land. When I built it, there was only a peice of broken wall.
For the ownership of my house, there is an agreement made between me and the owner of the site. The agreement indicates after having completed building works of the said house and entering it to enjoy the usage, within the 10 years the first, the owner of the site does not collect any rent for the site from me. After the 1st 10 years, within another 5 years, the owner of the site collects only $10.00 per month. When the later 5 years expires, the owner collect only $15.00 per month. No increase is allowed. On the whole, the said house practically belongs to me.The rent paid to the owner of the site is only a phenomenon, showing I am not tresspassing his estate.
Now your department order me to demolish the house. I suffer a great blow,of course, directly giving bad effects to me, causing me to lose my home and the means to earn living.
The policy of Hongkong Government always shows respect to the opinion N.T. Pural People, the native. Therefore, I pray you appreciate this objection and give a reasonable arrangment. I thank you very much.
