Until all the land required for the full road widening schemes has been acquired, the areas resumed will be formed and used temporarily as public pavement.

6

Funds for the compensation payments, which are estimated to total $3 million, are available within the approved project estimate for street widening. The land is vacant and no rehousing of occupants or ex-gratia payments will be involved. It is accordingly recommended that one month's notice of resumption should be given,

7

Honourable Members will be asked to advise, under section 3 of the Crown Lands Resumption Ordinance (Chapter 124), whether the resumption of the lots listed in paragraph 4 of this memo- randum is required for a public purpose, namely the future widening of sections of Wing Lok Street, Queen's Road Central, Pokfulam Road and Hollywood Road,

(The Director of Lands and Survey (Mr I. L. STANTON) and the Deputy Secretary for the Environment (Mr G. BARNES) will attend before the Council for the discussion of this item).
