(f) Cost of Conversion

The order of cost of converting the

house to a museum was estimated at

$1.7 million being the cost of the

following items :-

Roof replacement of the wooden

roof structure by steel

trusses;

Reinforcing the floors;

Re-wiring and flood lighting;

Air-conditioning;

Improvements to services;

Redecoration and repairs.

A summary of the other alternative uses

considered and the reasons for the Committee's final

Annex 11 decision are set out in Annex 11.

The Committee's attention was next

focussed on several other building in the south-

western area. The Committee found no strong

reasons at that time to recommend their retention

and considered their removal would permit zoning

of the sites for open space which would offer

greater amenity to the public and would be a logical

extension of the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical
