floors could not be carried out
without detriment to the main
building structure. In view of
the structural problems and the
restriction on public use, the
Committee decided that the
proposed use of the building as
a library for the Supreme Court
was not acceptable, although the
adjacent site to the east was
proposed to be used for the new
Supreme Court building.
(iii) An Office for the Unofficial Members
of the Executive and Legislative Councils
The Committee felt that the UMELCO
Office would be more accessible to
members of the public if located
in a private commercial building.
(iv) A Residence for a High Official
If used as a residence, the building
would be totally inaccessible to the
general public. Moreover, this
proposed use would not meet (c)
of the terms of reference.
